  Friday Poll 8_31_07 Sports
Okay, this is sort of more than one question, so you can answer just part of it if you want.

1. What is your favorite sport to watch?
2. What is your favorite sport to play?
3. If you could pick a sport for your child to play, what sport would you choose? And, would it make a difference if you had a girl or a boy?

I'm going to preface this post by saying that if you tell me the ending, I'm going to murder you in your sleep
(I won't really do that, but it gets my point across, no?) Austin made me start reading the Harry Potter books. I read the first two back when I was pregnant, but then I started reading pregnancy/parenting books, and didn't pick up any fiction for many, many months. Anyway, I started reading the third one around the time that the last book came out. I am now working my way through the fifth book and I am enjoying it so much! I don't think I've had this much fun reading since I rushed through the Lord of the Rings books back in college to beat the release of the movies.

Anyway, perhaps I should be reading books that are more advanced, but these are really enjoyable and they are so easy to read. By the way, some advice to my pregnant friends out there (and my friends without children for that matter) - READ WHILE YOU CAN, because once you have kids, it isn't quite as easy to find time to read. I have gotten to where I enjoy the waiting rooms at doctor's appointments since I have spare time to kill with a book!

  Relief.
The weather this week is down to the mid-90's. Nice. (sorry to keep posting about the weather, but the triple-digit temps melted my brain.)

Have I mentioned how HOT it has been here lately?
For the past couple of years, whenever the thermometer in my car tells me that the temperature outside is 100 degrees or higher, I find that notable. It has hit 100, maybe 101, probably 2 or 3 times each year. But in the last couple of weeks it usually hovers between 98 and 101 during the day and it has hit 106 and 104 on two different occassions. One of the digital signs in town said that it was 110 degrees the other day. That is hot. Couple that heat with the humidity, it is just unbearable to go outside.

But, at least I didn't have to move in the heat. Sorry, Amanda! ;-)

I'd lose my head if it wasn't attached
I think at one point or another I have lost everything I own. Seriously. Name it, and I have lost it for at least a few minutes - sometimes for a few hours, days or even months. It sucks. It is so stressful to lose things all the time. Right now, I have lost my memory card reader, so I can't download the latest pictures on my camera. What is especially irritating is that I have the wire that it connects to; I just don't have the actual reader. Comparitively, it isn't too bad though. In the last few months I have lost my keys, my credit card, my ATM card, my wallet, my purse, my phone, my camera and I can't even remember what else! Ugh. My chest hurts.

  Friday Poll 8_10_07 Board Games
I know we kind of discussed this a little a few weeks ago, but I had already planned on asking this question. So, what was your favorite board game when you were a kid? What about now?

  To Owen... (17 months old)

The biggest event that has happened in the last month is, of course, the walking. It is so cute seeing you walking around like a tiny drunk man; and it is very cute to hear the pitter patter of your little feet coming around the corner. You are actually really good at walking already. It is like you were just waiting until you knew you could do it.

With this milestone, came a period of not sleeping as well as usual. I thought it was teething, and part of it might have been your molars continuing to work their way through the surface. But, I think you are mostly getting back on schedule now.

I'm not going to lie. This hasn't been the easiest month in the world. I think maybe the separation anxiety might be really strong right now or something. There are many times when all you want to do is have me carry you around the house (or wherever else we might be). I don't mind, but I think I need to build up my arm muscles. 30ish pounds of wiggly gets very heavy, very fast. But, I do think I'm losing weight! And we have fun dancing and bouncing around the house together. And you love to look at yourself in the mirror. You think you are so cute - and you're right.

You seem to be getting pickier about your food, but I keep trying things that are good for you, hoping to keep you healthy. The other day, I gave you this glass bottle after I finished the coffee inside. You proceded to put every bit of food on your high chair tray into the bottle. I just thought, at least it wasn't going on the floor.

You like to repeat things. If you find a toy that makes a noise you like you make it make the noise over and over again. I can't even tell you how many times we make hokey-pokey elmo dance in a row. You dance with it and walk around it in circles and when it stops, if you can't make it go again, you lift it up and carry it to me saying, "ba," which is your universal word for "bite," "I want that," and "do that again." And I think you would be happy if I read the same book to you repetatively for hours on end.

A funny thing I started noticing months ago is that you let out a little scream or noise every time we walk into the garage. I used to think that you might be scared of the garage, but lately, you start yelling gibberish like "ba ba, la, la." I've decided that I think you like the way the echo sounds.

Each day with you presents new challenges and joys. It is amazing how a puzzle can completely frustrate you one day, and you just drop the shapes in the next day. One day we might have a horrible time at the grocery store and the next you are smiling and flirting with everyone just like a little angel. We all have our good days and bad days, but not a day goes by that I don't feel lucky to have you in my life.

Love, Mama

  Owen and his friend, Will
Owen and I went swimming with Hillary and her son, Will, a couple of Fridays ago. We met them at Gymboree. Owen and Will were born within like 2 or 3 days of each other and they almost look like they could be brothers. Thanks, Hillary for sending these photos!
