Lost dreams, insurance and random thoughts
I had a nightmare last night and I keep trying to remember it, but I can't. I know there was some kind of scary guy in it that looked a little bit like that guy who plays Freddy Krueger but without his makeup on. Hmmm... well, after long battles with the insurance company, Austin and I finally are on the same medical insurance policy. After all, we've only been married 4 months!!! An all new I Love the 80's is going to be on VH-1 in October. Becca said the first one was great, but this is a new one– new topics, new interviews. I'm going to watch it, but I'd like to see the first one too. Maybe it will come out on DVD. I Love the 70's was pretty good too.

  Moby
If you know anyone who needs or might want a cat, the best cat in the whole world needs a home. His name is Moby and he's my sister's cat. He is the biggest, fluffiest, sweetest cat you'll ever meet and if it weren't for allergies and such he would be my cat in a second. Anyway, if you know anyone who could give him a good home, let me know.

  Two days until I'm 26
I think that 26 is one of the most insignificant birthdays there is. The only thing interesting about it is that it will put me into my late twenties, I suppose. Hmph! I have been so busy at work lately. If you keep track of this weblog you probably know that because I haven't been posting as much as usual. But, that's okay. I'm getting a raise tomorrow (hopefully), so I hope all this work will pay off! Austin gave me the first season of Six Feet Under last night. I told him that he's already gotten me enough. He's so sweet and wonderful! We watched Queer Eye for the Straight Guy last night and it was the funniest ones I've ever seen (I recorded it, so Becca – or anyone else who wants to watch it – can borrow it). I was crying, I was laughing so hard.

By the way, I'm not able to send out email from my work email today for some reason. I can receive it, but can't reply. So, if I seem quiet today, that's why.

  Make it Funky
Austin got me a new iPod for my birthday. My old one was totally messed up and to fix it they would've charged almost as much as a new one with twice as much memory and is compatible on Macs and PCs. So, he gave me the new one on Monday when I came home from work. And last night he gave me a Wilco CD because I've heard great things about Wilco, but never actually listened to them. Anyway, I couldn't think of title for this post, so I just chose the song I happened to be listening to on my iPod at the moment. I don't feel creative at all today. Ughh!!! I want to be outside. Yesterday was the first day of fall and it was so beautiful. Today is supposed to be similar but cooler. I wish I was anywhere but work right now!!!

By the way, I wanted to make a correction that Austin brought to my attention. In a post from July I said that I was "busty" and I actually meant that I was busy.

  The Weekend... still recovering
Well, the weekend was fun, but tiring and Sunday night I came down with a killer migraine which didn't go away until last night, so I didn't feel much like posting anything. But, I'm ready now. Here are some pictures from the weekend...

Melissa's wedding was at Chateau Elan. It was a beautiful setting for a wedding.

Andrea had a great time at her Bachelorette party. This was taken at about 4:30 am.

Becca and Amanda

I had never seen a sign like this before. I thought it was odd.

  TGIF
Yeah, it's Friday! I'm going to get off work as soon as I can. Tomorrow is going to be so busy! First wedding at 11:00 at Chateau Elan. Bridal shower in Athens at 2:00 (or maybe 3, I don't know). Then I have to come home, change and jump in the car to go to the second wedding at a church in Lawrenceville at 6:00. Then I meet for the bachelorette party somewhere at sometime tomorrow night. It should be fun, but I think I'm going to get as much done around the house tonight as possible so I can sleep and rest all day Sunday. I guess the only thing that I don't like about this hectic Saturday is that I'm probably not going to be able to watch the game on TV. I am kind of worried about LSU. They are averaging like 50 points a game or something scary like that. But optimistic Austin and Amanda don't seem to think there will be a problem. Are Aries supposed to be optimistic?

  Happy Days
I'm happy again today. That's always a good thing! We are going to have dinner with Becca, Jake and Ethan tonight, which should be fun. I can't wait to see them!

My mom's computer was stolen from her office this past Sunday. It sucks for her to not have a computer to do her work on and I miss talking to her on email. I hope they get her a new one soon.

Work is going well. I've been designing some good stuff lately. It helps to be confident in your ability and for awhile I had lost all of my confidence.

This weekend should be fun and tiring. I have two weddings Saturday and a bridal shower and a bachelorette party. I will probably be sleeping late on Sunday.

You can dance if you want to, you can leave the world behind
I've got that song stuck in my head. I think it's because on Sunday we watched the Conan O'Brien 10th anniversary special. They had a skit on there where there was a guy who sang everything he said like that song. Does anyone know who sang that song? I sure don't. The Conan special was good, but they didn't include my all-time favorite Conan moment. Norm Macdonald and Courtney Thorne-Smith being interviewed. I found the transcript of the interview on the internet. If you get offended easily, don't read, but I think it's hilarious:

Late Night with Conan O'Brien MAY 15, 1997 (NBC)

CONAN: Alright everyone, we're back. Ladies and gentlemen, for the last five seasons, my next guest has played Allison Parker, one of the many dysfunctional but gorgeous residents of 'Melrose Place'. Please welcome Courtney Thorne-Smith. [Applause.] [Courtney Thorne-Smith comes out and Norm gives her a lingering hug until Conan pulls him away.]

CONAN: Norm! Norm, you're sick, and you're all over her like a bear rug!

NORM: Before, during the commercial, I was saying I had a huge crush on her.

CONAN: Yeah?

NORM: And then, you said you did too. [Laughter.]

CONAN: I said I did. [To Courtney.] When you were on "Day by Day" I developed a big crush on you. And this whole talk show was a scheme to get you here.

NORM: I liked you when you were on "The Tomorow Show" with Tom Snyder. Ooh, not "The Tomorow Show," but "The Later Later Show."

COURTNEY: You have no idea who I am, do you?

NORM: No, I know you from that show.

CONAN: He said to me during the break he really liked you, and I asked him where he had seen you, and I asked him if he had seen you on "Melrose Place," and he said, "No, I was watching Tom Snyder and she was on and she was a great guest." And then I said, "Wait a minute! That's the show that's opposite our show." [Laughter.]

CONAN: Why weren't you watching our show, pal?

NORM: Because I wasn't on it that night. [Laughter.]

COURTNEY: Alright, I'm going to go --

CONAN: No! No, we have exciting stuff to talk about. You've been on this show "Melrose Place" for 5 years.

COURTNEY: 5 Years.

CONAN: And now, you're leaving. Why are you leaving?

COURTNEY: Ummm. It's just time. How many times can you be fired, rehired, drunk, sober --

CONAN: I understand. You must have got tired, because they had your character pretty much go insane. I mean, go through all these really weird --

COURTNEY: Allison has been through so much. I was sexually harassed, carjacked, had an affair with a married man -- who then tried to rape me, and shot himself while he was on the phone with me. ... I was drunk, sober -- well, getting sober, then I got to have an affair.....

NORM: [Butting in.] Are you talking about 'Melrose Place'? [Laughter.]

CONAN: You're the biggest ass I've ever met -- [Laughter.] -- and I love you for it.

NORM: No, cause I swear to God, when I lived in L.A., I lived on the actual street called Melrose Place. There's an actual street.

CONAN: There's a Melrose. Is there really a Melrose Place?

NORM: There's really a Melrose Place.

COURTNEY: There is a Melrose Place.

NORM: You know this, right?

COURTNEY: Yes, it's true.

NORM: So, they opened a restaurant called "Melrose Place" on it, and it's right beside my house and every time I go out there's all these retards, like tourists, and these tourist retards are always fat and they're taking pictures standing in front of this restaurant.

CONAN: Uh-huh? [Norm shrugs his shoulders.] [Applause.] Well, thanks for the help, pal. [Laughter.] He'll get over it, you'll see. Now, I've got to ask you about this -- [Norm is talking quietly to Andy.] [Conan laughs.] Would you shut up?

NORM: I was talking to Andy!

ANDY: [Laughing.] Oh, that makes it alright. [Laughter.]

CONAN: [To Courtney.] Well, I want to talk to you about something because this came up earlier in the show accidentally. Cause I didn't know what Norm was going to talk about tonight. And it's best sometimes if I don't know. But, he mentioned Carrot Top. You are making a movie with Carrot Top right?

COURTNEY: I MADE a movie with Carrot Top.

CONAN: You made a movie with Carrot Top, it's not out yet.

NORM: [Interrupting.] Wait a minute! She left "Melrose Place" to do a movie with Carrot Top? [Laughter.]

CONAN: That's where I'm going, my friend. [To Courtney.] This begs the question now, "Why a movie with carrot Top?"

COURTNEY: Why a movie with Carrot Top?

CONAN: I mean, no, I don't know much about Carrot Top. I'm a little jealous, cause he's a red-haired comedian and I felt like maybe you'd do a movie with me first, then move on to Carrot Top, then to Ralph Mouth from Happy Days. [Laughter.] -- Do you have a scene where you and he embrace?

COURTNEY: Yeah, lots of making out.

CONAN: [Disgusted.] Oh, for God's sake. [Laughter.]

COURTNEY: Nothing but making out. It's like "9 and 1/2 Weeks," but Carrot Top -- basically is what we were doing. [Laughter.]

CONAN: [Laughing.] Wow! I've got to check out that movie.

NORM: Is it called "9 and 1/2 Seconds?" [Applause.] -- Like he's a premature ejaculator -- [Applause.]

CONAN: [Laughs.] You know what happened? This is what happened, he said "9 and 1/2 Seconds" and I'm looking at him, cause I know there's more. Then I wait and wait, then I see the glimmer in the eye and BANG! I thought you were going to "crackwhore, dirty sex," but no -- [Laughter.]

CONAN: [To Courtney.] What's the movie going to be called?

NORM: [Interrupting.] I know what it's going to be called! [Laughter.]

CONAN: Yeah? What's that?

NORM: If it's got Carrot Top in it, you know what a good name for it would be?

CONAN: What's that, Norm?

NORM: "BOX OFFICE POISON!" [Applause.]

COURTNEY: [A little upset.] I'm in it, too! Come on! What about my career?

CONAN: SHE'S in it! Courtney Thorne-Smith, the girl sitting to your left, is IN THE MOVIE!

NORM: -- I'm going to go see it for Courtney. [Applause.]

COURTNEY: After you scare everyone else away?

NORM: No, I love this girl. I would go see ANY movie with this girl in it. She's a beautiful lady -- and a talented, nice -- talk show guest. [Applause.]

CONAN: As evidenced by her appearance on our RIVAL SHOW! [Laughter.] [To Courtney.] All right, there's this 2 hour finale of "Melrose Place." There's this movie coming out, title undetermined at this point --

COURTNEY: "Chairman of the Board."

CONAN: Oh, all right. [To Norm.] Do something with that, you freak. [Laughter.]

NORM: I bet the "Board" is spelled B*O*R*E*D ! [Huge laughter, applause.]

  Not much to say today–
Well, I spent most of the weekend just being sick, but I'm feeling better today. I just have a lingering cough now.

Our pool table came on Friday. It looks pretty cool down in the basement.

Saturday we watched the game. It was great. We are a little worried about playing LSU this weekend, though.

We met our neighbors' dog the other day. Her name is Lacey and she is part Chihuahua, part Dachshund. Talk about a strange looking, nervous little dog. She looked mostly like a tiny little Dachshund with great big Chihuahua ears and her tail moved faster than you could see it- almost like hummingbird wings.

  Cute!!
I don't mean to brag, but I designed this 3 paneled brochure and I just think it is so cute! It doesn't hurt that it is filled with really cute kids either, I guess. I should've used Ethan, though. I didn't even think about it until I'd already showed it to the client. But I'll put him in something I design, eventually.

"I shot a man in Reno, just to watch him die"
Well, I'm kind of glad we cancelled going to the game since I feel sick today. When I woke up this morning my sinuses felt like they were going to explode. I am so stuffed up right now. But, at least I'm not dead like Johnny Cash and John Ritter. That's sad that they died last night. I heard the news on my radio alarm clock and I told Austin while he was still sleeping. He said "were they together?".

We get our pool table today. I can't wait!

Amanda thinks her apartment is infested with brown recluse spiders!!! Ick!!!!!!!

I didn't remember until this morning that we get paid today. Yeah!!!!!!!

Quote is from "Folsum Prison Blues" by Johnny Cash

I have a lot to talk about today, so stay with me...
First of all, on a serious note, September 11th is here again. It really does all come rushing back to me to see the images again. It was the most hopeless, horrible feeling to see those towers come crashing down. I just remember thinking, "how can this really be happening?" But it did.

Last night we had some mild excitement in the neighborhood. Austin's parents came over to see the room where the pool table is going and we walked outside into the back yard. We kept hearing meowing. Austin said he had heard it all day (he was home sick yesterday). Finally I saw a cat up in a tree. She was probably 25 feet up, out on a branch. There were not many branches lower than the one she was on. Austin's parents said that she would come down and not to worry about her. When we asked my dad how to get a cat out of a tree, he said, "you wait for it to come down. How many little cat skeletons do you see up in trees?" So, we left it alone. At about 9:30 a little boy (about 11 or 12 years old) came to knock on our door. He said that they were looking for their cat so they were going to be looking around our yard with flashlights. Austin told him about the cat in the tree. Him and his father went around and looked at the cat. So, the dad went and got a really tall ladder from his office. He told the little boy, "go get Michael and make sure he puts his shoes on." So, Michael came over and went up the ladder. Cocoa, the cat, wouldn't come to him and Michael was terrified being so high up in the tree. So, he came back down the ladder. Then, the dad said, "okay, you boys hold onto this ladder as tight as you can." He went up the ladder (and he is not a small man). He just grabbed the cat by the scruff of her neck, craddled her under his arm and came right back down the ladder. I was just sure that they were going to kill themselves (or the cat), but everything turned out okay.

The gerbils in the wheel that run the engine on the Ford Taurus I'm driving are starting to wear out and make strange noises. I think I'll switch back to the Honda (it is getting cooler outside, so the lack of air conditioning won't be such a huge problem), but I need to check the oil and make sure there is enough for the car to run since there is an oil leak.

  I love the fall!
The weather is starting to get a little milder. The sun is setting a little bit earlier. The light is starting to look beautiful and the air smells crisp and burnt like fall. It is my favorite time of year. Football season, my birthday, Halloween, and Thanksgiving are just some of the highlights of this beautiful season. Being an adult, I don't have the rush of anxiety and excitment that I used to get from anticipating the start of a new school year, but I have the weather and the light and I can't wait until the leaves are shades of brown and orange and red and yellow.

  80s TV shows
This is an email from my cousin Matt who leads a far more interesting life than I do...

Thanks for posting the wedding pictures. They look great. Jen's brother sent us some pics from the wedding, and I noticed that my bald head looks like a ham with glasses poking out of the top of a tux. Oh well, if I didn't have a pie face, I'd have no face at all.

I am happy to report that I too know all of the words to the Silver Spoons theme song (Hopin' to find, we're two of a kind!). I can also sing the entire theme from "Small Wonder," a short-lived show that was about a family with an android daughter named Vicki. The whole point of the show was that they tried to keep it a secret that Vicki was an android, and people would always walk in on the inventor dad opening up the hood on her torso and fiddling with her mechanical innards. Then, neighbors would freak out. It was a really terrible show that Caroline loved and watched every f***ing week. You may also catch me singing the theme to "Diff'rent Strokes," "Facts of Life," and "Growing Pains," which I sung to the star of the show, Alan Thicke, at a bar in the Virgin Islands. I didn't know it at the time, but Alan "Thicke of the Night" Thicke told me that he wrote that song (Show me that smile again, and don't waste another minute on your cryin'...)

  A Pain in the Neck
Austin and I did some more wallpapering last night. He was joking around with me trying to get me to flinch by threatening me with a rubberband. He accidentally let go of it and shot me right in the neck with it. He felt really bad but neither of us could stop laughing. I said, "see, that's why I flinch at every little thing. I never know when I'm going to get shot in the neck!" He also let me listen to this awful CD he had from some band called Atrician (I think that's how it's spelled). They were kind of Goth/Techno, but it was nothing but pure crap. It was really funny though.

I was almost ran off the road by a woman that looked like Iggy Pop this morning. That was fun.

The guys on the radio were saying how Tech was going to get stomped by Auburn this weekend. And they said if you are going to the Georgia game this weekend, you might as well just go to the bars and get plastered because the game is going to be so boring against Middle Tennessee State. I don't know about that, but I think we'd rather be in air conditioning than in hot Sanford Stadium tomorrow.

  Your Chickory for free
I'm in an odd mood today. I had some Cafe Du Monde coffee with chickory this morning. I became very curious about what chickory was. I did some research and I found out that it is an herb. It was used originally as a coffee additive and sometimes subsitute. Most of the time it is served au lait style to take away from the strong taste of the chickory. Hmmm... you learn something new every day.

We went and ate Mexican food with Becca, Jake and Ethan last night. Ethan has learned to use the word "no" so he was using it excessively when Becca and Jake were trying to feed him. They were embarrassed. I kind of thought it was cute though. We went to their apartment for a little while after dinner. I just love that little boy!!!

My mom was a huge help on Sunday with the wallpaper and Austin was a huge help last night. We've only wallpapered like one corner of our bathroom, but I think it was the most difficult corner, so the rest shouldn't be too hard (I hope). It is so tedious. I did some wallpaper in our rental house (with Andrea's help) but I think that wallpaper was thinner and used less paste. This wallpaper we're using now, is a lot harder to use because it is so thick and pasty. Anyway, maybe our bathroom will be done in a week or so. Look for some before and after pictures once we get everything finished. I'll have some good ones!

  Mike and Scott's
As I said in a previous post, Mike and Scott's condo is really cool.

This is the outside of their building...

Venus de moo-lo

Labor Day Weekend
The weekend was good. I'll post pictures later. We did a lot of work on the house and I started trying to cover up the awful wallpaper in the master bathroom. We went to see my aunt and uncle, Denise and Tom's new house (it is beautiful!!) and Mike and Scott's new condo- it is soooo cool (great view of Atlanta, great architecture and decorating, really nice!!!). We watched Georgia beat Clemson in football. We went to dinner with Becca, Jake, Ethan and Sergio. They stopped by the house after dinner. To get Ethan to want to go home they started saying "bathtime" because he loves to take baths. He started saying, "bath-hmmm, bath-hmmm". It was really cute.
