  My Parents' House 7_22_07

I'm a little behind with the picture posting.
These are from the 21st, when I took Owen swimming over to Cindy's house. Caleb is her son (the smaller one) and Ben (the taller boy) is the son of a friend of her's from work.

Just when it started to seem ironic that we chose "Walker" as Owen's middle name
Owen has been walking all over the place! He started taking a lot more steps than normal on Friday night and on Saturday he started zooming all over the place. He isn't completely steady or confident yet, but it is so cute to see him toddling along.

  My Funny Boy
I had to wait on some prescriptions at Publix tonight, so Owen and I walked around a little bit until we got to the card section. They now carry Hallmark cards that play songs when you open them. Owen loved them. The one that he kept opening over and over again was a card that played "the Final Countdown." He must have opened and closed that card about a hundred times, dancing the whole time. I bought the card since it was so funny.

I also thought it was funny to watch him turn the pages of "Goodnight Moon" with his feet while I read to him tonight.

  Wrong Number
I just answered the phone and an old man was on the line. He said, "yes, what kind of vegetables do you have?" At first I thought it was some kind of weird obscene call that I didn't quite understand, but I think it was just a wrong number.

  Hellmo
We have this hokey-pokey Elmo that we got as a hand-me-down from Ethan and Wyatt a while back. I never replaced the batteries on it and the other day Austin turned it on to play with Owen. He said, "it sounded fine until it got to 'shake it all about.' Then it turned into Hell-mo, Elmo's satanic cousin." He imitated the slowed down, deep voice that Elmo had because the batteries were running down.

On a side note, I replaced the batteries today and you know you're really out of shape from doing the hokey-pokey over and over again with an Elmo doll. In my defense, I did do it like 20 times in a row, very enthusiastically.

  Better late than never, right?
I finally finished making a book for Owen through Shutterfly for the first year of his life. I used the monthly letters I've written and some of the photos from each month for the book. Here is the link to the book, if you are interested in looking at it:

  To Owen... (16 months old)

You get funnier and funnier every day. I spend so much of my time laughing with you during the day. It is so amazing to see you get delighted by simple things. The other night you were putting these big colorful coins into your toy piggy bank. Your daddy was playing with you and when you put the coin in, you would just laugh and say "hey" (although you say it like "yay") and clap. When I joined the two of you, it just got funnier. I've also seen you get really excited and laugh a lot when you bounce a ball repetitively or when I spin toys around in circles. When you are having one of your laughing fits, it is so funny.

You still aren't really walking. You can walk, and you do walk a few steps at a time and you walk all over the place holding onto furniture, but I think you just feel like you get around better with your crazy little crawl. You sure can get around fast, dragging that left leg around while you pull yourself forward with your right leg.

You are also talking more this month. Most of the words you say don't really sound quite like they should yet, but I can tell that you are trying to say them. You say ball (ba), car (ka), thank you (da-do), butterfly (buttuh), Holly (ha-ye), that (da), book (bu), read? (bweee) and of course mama, dada/daddy, hi, hi there, hey and bye-bye. I love watching you try to imitate different sounds as your language skills develop.

You have also learned to nod and shake your head. I don't think you fully grasp the meaning of these gestures, but you like to do them, nonetheless.

You like to eat soap suds from your bubble baths.

You like baths, but you are still a little wary of the pool. But, it gets better each time we go swimming.

You are so curious, pointing at things and trying to figure out how things work. There is so much you want to know about. I know that I shouldn't let you watch TV, but I put on the occasional video for you (Brainy Baby, Baby Einstein or the Goodnight Moon DVD) and you just get so enthralled. You show your preferences for certain parts of the movie by laughing, smiling, and/or raising your arms up in the air. Sometimes you try to talk to (or about - I'm not sure which) the video.

You also love books now. You want me to read them to you over and over again. You really pay attention to the ones I read in the bath and at night, but sometimes when I read to you during the day, I think you just like to play with my voice in the background; you will hand me a book and start playing with a toy while I read and when it is over, you make me read it again by handing it to me and saying, "bweee, bweee."

For the past couple of months you have been so much better about not putting small things in your mouth. When you pick up little things from the floor you usually hand them to me and say, "da-do." You have also been better about chewing up food, but you still choke every once in a while from cramming too much food into your mouth.

It is sometimes hard for me to keep you and Holly away from each other. You like to crawl on top of her and she tries to mount you and lick you; you laugh and seem to like rough-housing with her, but I'm always nervous that one of you will get hurt. I am also trying to teach you to be nice to animals, so it is difficult. But I think you both like each other. You love to feed Holly. You were sitting on the floor, feeding her freeze-dried apples the other night. You thought it was so funny.

You love your chair, but the way you get into it is a little strange.

You make funny faces all the time now.

And you sometimes have funny hair (especially when your daddy fluffs it up).

You and your Daddy have the best time together. You always want bites of his peanut butter sandwiches and it is so cute when you reach for him to hold you. I love both of you so much.

Every morning when I see your smiling face, I fall in love all over again. I never knew how much I would love being your mother.

Love, Mama

  Fourth of July
At the pool yesterday, Austin and Ethan kept picking at each other, as they do. Ethan finally said to Austin, "I'm going to cover you up with one hundred and ninety-nine blankets while you're sleeping, so you get all hot and sweaty." I thought that was the funniest threat! Anyway, here are pictures.
