Big Foot
I knew Owen was big and his feet have always looked fairly large on his tiny little body, but I didn't know HOW big his feet were. Becca gave me a lot of socks that she had saved from when her boys were little; and we got a bunch of socks at my baby showers. But, right from the first couple of weeks they were snug on him. Yesterday we went to Babies R Us. One of the pairs of shoes we were looking at said the size was 9-12 months. We put them next to his feet. They would've just fit and he isn't even two months old yet! We bought some socks that were supposed to fit 6-12 months. They fit him, but the tops are super tight around his calves and ankles. He is such a big boy! Our 2 month doctor's visit is on the 8th of May, so we'll see how big he's getting then!
Friday Poll:
I think I'm going to start a new feature here at Fried Okra called Friday poll where I will be asking my readers to weigh in on some very important (or totally superficial) things.
The first installment of my Friday poll:
What do you think of Austin's facial hair in this photo?
Random thoughts for the morning
• I hate it when I have to cancel things.
• Kidney infections suck (especially when you have your second one in less than 7 weeks).
• Our new refrigerator is being delivered tonight. I can't wait to get it!
• I hate it when people move away, although I understand it if the opportunity exists.
• It is so weird to be talking to people I went to high school with again... weird, but kind of nice.
• I have too much work, too little time, and I am wasting time posting this list.
The difference between dogs and cats:
Cats will leave little piles of regurgitated cat food all over your driveway. Dogs will try to eat the little piles of regurgitated cat food that are all over your driveway.
Babies smell soooooo much better than dogs!!!
(even when they're stinky)
Days of Our Lives
If you had amnesia and you started to remember that the man you are married to is actually an abusive jerk who is drugging you to keep you from remembering what an abusive jerk he is, why would you keep going to him alone and telling him you remember this? He's just going to drug you again. Seriously, what a boring story line. (And she's supposed to be a psychiatrist)
I know...
it isn't May yet. I was designing a banner that I was going to upload in May, but before I knew it, I had already changed my template colors and uploaded the thing. Then, I thought, "Oh yeah, it's April 24th." But, I'm too lazy to change it back just for 6 days, so live with it.
My dad's picture of Owen from Saturday
Keep your fingers crossed!
Well, if everything goes according to plan, Corinne will be moving into a really cool house at the end of May. I got a sneak peek today and it is so adorable! Hardwoods, tile and berber floors, lots of built in storage, an awesome giant sunroom, a stone fireplace, and a great landscaped yard with a porch and a fenced in backyard are all great features, but what makes me excited is that she will live only 15 minutes away now - yay!!! Anyway, I'm so excited for her!
Invasion
There is a wasp living in our mailbox. He keeps building a nest on the door of the mailbox. The other day Austin knocked the nest off and the next day when I went to check the mail, the wasp was back and his nest was back. Austin knocked it off again last night. This morning, I opened up the mailbox and the wasp was sitting on the door waiting for me. I think he is going to start building again. I would hate to deliver mail!
All smiles
Owen has been smiling for a couple of weeks now, although I haven't gotten a good picture yet! It just melts my heart every time he does it.
Hungry enough to eat his arm!
Owen is happy when he is sleeping, nursing, or moving. He occasionally will just chill out, but most of the time he must be doing one of these three things. Tonight, I was in a stopped car with him for about 10 minutes while Austin ran into a store. As soon as we stopped, he began crying his head off. I did everything I could to get him to stop, but I finally ended up leaning over his car seat and nursing him until Austin got back. Once we got home, I had to walk around with him until I was ready to sit down and feed him. While I was doing this he put his forearm in his mouth and began sucking as hard as he could. Once I sat down I realized that in all of five minutes he had made a red mark on his arm, a bright red dot, and a bruise. Poor little guy; he does not like to be hungry.
Owen's One Month Doctor's Appointment
Owen went to the doctor yesterday. He weighs 12 lbs 8.5 oz (that's the 95th percentile), He is 23 1/2 inches tall (95th percentile) and his head is 40 1/2 cm around (90th percentile). So, he's a big boy! But, his weight and height are almost exactly the same as his cousin, Ethan's were at one month. He also had to have a shot which was so sad. And I know it will only get worse - he has to have 4 next month! His little face turns bright red and he just screams at the top of his little lungs. He was tired the rest of the day... but he woke up in the middle of the night last night. It was a long night!
Happy 30th Birthday, Austin...
the love of my life, the father of my child and my best friend. You are the only man I know who buys his wife presents on HIS birthday! Happy birthday, sweetie!
Just look at these eyelashes!
So, does this mean you have two anniversaries now?
Rebecca and Jake got married this morning. Even though they have been legally married for years, their wedding in Jamaica wasn't a Catholic wedding. Since Becca has been trying to become a Catholic with Jake, they got married in the Catholic church this morning. My mom and dad and Jake's mom were there along with Wyatt, and the child Becca watches during the week, Nicholas. Ethan was at school.
Partrich in a pear tree
I know that's really cheesy, but I still wish Ashley would use that for a Christmas card design. Anyway, check out Ashley and Matt Partrich's blogs. I linked them over there on the right hand side of the page under "links". Keep it up, y'all!
To Owen... (1 month old)
I can't believe it has been a month already. The first week or so went by pretty slowly because I didn't get too much sleep and we were just getting used to each other, but once we found out sort of how to do things, it got a lot better and time has been flying ever since. Once you got the hang of nursing, we started doing that a lot. You like to eat! You root around like a chicken pecking at his food when you are hungry. And you'll suck on almost anything that gets near your mouth, including your hands, fingers and arms or the fingers or knuckles of the person holding you or even burp cloths or blankets near you. Unfortunately, the excessive nursing has caused some major spitting up issues so the doctor has made me start limiting your meals. We can only nurse 10 minutes on each side. You scream at me and give me the dirtiest looks when I try to stop you from nursing. The doctor said I can increase the frequency to every 2 hours during the day and every 3 hours at night. We have sort of adjusted that schedule to vary between every hour to every 3 hours during the day and often every 3 to 5 hours at night. Which works for me, because I have been getting some good sleep. You are such a good baby so far!!! (but, I don't want to jinx things).
You still sleep a lot during the day and when you're awake you think it is time to eat, but you are starting to get a little bit more interested in things. The other day you sat in your swing and watched the fish spin around over you for almost 45 minutes. When they would stop, you would start to get upset, so I would start them up again and you would quiet down. You also seem very interested in some of the stuff in your room. I think you really like the black and white art I did, and the flags hanging from the ceiling. I think you also really enjoy the way the light shines through your purple curtains in the morning. Bath time is getting better too. You still seem a little skeptical, but you don't cry (except for occassionally when I shampoo your hair).
You love your Daddy. No matter how fussy you are, when I hand you over to him, he takes you and turns you on your side facing away from him and you calm right down.
I love to hold you and nurse you and cuddle you. I love it when you grip my finger with your tiny little hand (even though I know it is just a reflex). I start to think how someday, your hands will most likely be much bigger than mine. It is hard to believe now.
Your hair still looks blonde and your eyes still look blue. You are the most beautiful, perfect looking little creature to me. I can't imagine my life without you. I love you, little guy.
Love, Mama
Birthday Season
Some very important people were born in March and April. Owen was born last month and my nephew Wyatt was born on St. Patrick's day. Also, my friend Shanna has a March birthday. But then, in April, in the span of five days, my friend Amanda was born on April 8th, my nephew Ethan on April 9th and Austin was born on the 12th - not in the same year, of course. Anyway, that's a lot of birthdays for people that are really close to me. So happy birthday everyone!
Ugh... I think spring has sprung
because my allergies sure feel like they're kicking in. Or else it's just hormones.
